Let us celebrate our Seattle NBA Athletes!

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

Seattle, WA - With the NBA season coming to an end, it is a constant reminder that we do not have an NBA team representing Seattle that will compete for the NBA championship. However, let us not forget that there are many players still representing their hometown of Seattle as they compete with their respective teams. This is the last official week of the regular season for the NBA and while some are still competing for a spot in the postseason battle, others have maintained a steady position in the standings.

Zach Lavine, a Renton native who graduated from Bothell High School, will be competing with his current team the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have done a good job at staying in the mix of the Eastern Conference and currently sit at No. 5 in the conference standings with a 45-33 record. As it looks today their first opponent would be the Philadelphia 76ers. A healthy Chicago Bulls team could stack up well against the loaded 76ers. Unfortunately, Lavine has been nursing a sore left knee and has missed some games within the last weeks but has had an overall great season averaging 24.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Chicago has a very talented team with other stars such as DeMar DeRozan who made a run at the MVP title mid-season, and Alex Caruso who became one of the main pieces for the Los Angeles Lakers before being traded over to the Bulls. We wish you and the team the best of luck in the NBA Playoffs Zach!

A surprise to many this season has been the rise of 2022 NBA All-Star Dejounte Murray. Murray a Seattle native and Rainier Beach High School graduate has had a breakout season and has propelled his team late for a chance to compete in the playoffs. Whereas the Chicago Bulls already have a secured spot, San Antonio looks to clinch a spot in the play in games that lead into the NBA playoffs. The next week is a competition with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 10th seed of the Western Conference and a chance at the play in tournament. Murray has averaged 20.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists and has done a fantastic job at making his team around him better overall. The San Antonio Spurs currently sit at a 34-45 record, they cemented their position in the play in tournament with a win over the Denver Nuggets on April 5th and a Lakers loss to the Phoenix Suns. They will now face the New Orleans Pelicans in the play in tournament. Good luck to San Antonio and Dejounte Murray as he recovers from an illness that has kept him out of the last couple of games.

Also, in the play in tournament, are Isaiah Thomas and the Charlotte Hornets. Isaiah Thomas struggled for most of the season to find the team that believed in him and wanted to sign him to the team for more than a 10-day contract. He finally found that with the Charlotte Hornets, after a couple of 10-day contracts. The Hornets have cemented a spot in the play in tournament with a record of 40-38. They are currently in competition with the Brooklyn Nets on who will ultimately place ninth or tenth in the standings, but they will also be matching up against each other in that play in tournament. Isaiah Thomas has averaged 8.4 points in his time with the Hornets since March and has functioned as an efficient backup behind a young LaMelo Ball. We love to see Thomas finding a place for himself for the rest of the 2022 season and wish him as well as the Hornets luck in the playoffs!

A huge shout out to Kevin Porter Jr., who plays for the Houston Rockets, while his team is not making the playoffs, we wish him continued luck in his career.
