Mistakes hold back Seawolves in loss to Giltinis

Tukwila, WA – The Seattle Seawolves were weighed down by their own mistakes in a 12-31 loss to the LA Giltinis. Seattle had several strong possessions, but could not convert the majority of them. The reigning champs, LA was able to take care of business in a win that pushes them to fourth in the Western Conference. The Seawolves now drop to third, only two points ahead of the Giltinis.

Captain Riekert Hattingh nearly had a try to open the game, but the play was overturned.

Turnovers haunt Seattle

The Seawolves began the game with a strong possession, carrying the ball down to the try line. Los Angeles took advantage of a Seattle turnover, flipping possession and stopping what should have been an early score. Shortly after, Seawolves captain Riekert Hattingh looked to have a try, but the play was reversed as the ball had gone out of bounds. With those two possessions, Seattle could have put themselves ahead early. Instead, the mistakes set the table for a frustrating even. Countless times, the Seawolves would have positive plays ending in turning the ball back over to Los Angeles. It’s a problem that Seattle has had all season, and it's holding them back from being atop the Western Conference.

Effort is good, but need to be able to cap it off

While it is concerning to see the issues Seattle has had with finishing off plays, the Seawolves ability to move the ball quickly is a positive to note. When Seattle turns the corner, and we’re hoping that’s sooner rather than later, it makes them a contender. In their current state, the Seawolves are a good team that is on the edge of being great. Making those adjustments is still paramount to their improvement as a squad, and giving the fans at Starfire sports a contender once again.

More important matters at hand

Seattle had to make a substitution right after halftime, as Wing Martin Iosefo’s wife went into labor! We await to hear more information, but Martin and Dani certainly had more important matters at stake than a rugby match. Best wishes to the family!

Martin Iosefo had to leave the match early as his wife went into labor!

Seattle will have their bye week coming up this next week. Their next matchup is April 9th on the road against the New England Free Jacks. New England currently has a 6 – 1 record, sitting atop the Eastern Conference.
