Sounders draft two Seattle college players in MLS SuperDraft

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

Seattle, WA - In the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, the Seattle Sounders traded out of their initial draft pick (first round, selection #20), selecting University of Washington defender Achille Robin and Seattle University midfielder Hal Uderitz. The last time the Sounders selected players from those schools, it would work out pretty well in the Roldan brothers.

How Seattle got it's new pick

Seattle would wait until their selection came around to trade the 20th overall pick to the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls would select O'Vonte Mullings, a forward out of Florida Gulf Coast University. In exchange for that 20th overall pick, Seattle would receive the 43rd overall pick and $75,000 in general allocation money.

Sounders picks

With the 43rd overall pick, Seattle would select University of Washington defender Achille Robin. Robin, originally from France and transferred to Washington after three seasons at Bowling Green, is 24 years old and 6'3". The centerback would make 21 appearances for the Huskies last season, starting in 19 of them. In addition to his defense, Robin added one assist on the year.

With the 76th overall pick in the draft, the Sounders would select Seattle University midfielder Hal Uderitz. Uderitz is a 22 year old, starting all 11 matches in a shortened season for the Redhawks. Uderitz would add one goal and an assist this past season.

Another college addition

Before the draft began, the Sounders would sign the second ranked overall player in college, Dylan Teves to a homegrown contract. Teves was a big factor in the Huskies season that took them all the way to the national title game, ultimately falling to Clemson. Teves racked up the accolades in his last season at Washington, most notably being a finalist for the MAC Hermann trophy, ranked second in the nation for men's soccer, earning All-American first team honors, and becoming the first player in NCAA history with back-to-back postseason hat tricks.
