Seahawks vs Jaguars preview, October 31st 2021

Seattle, WA - The Seattle Seahawks welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars to town, in a game between two teams that have had disappointing seasons so far. Jacksonville sits at a miserable 1-5 record, surrounded by controversy courtesy of Urban Meyer due to his decision making off the field and relating to the organization. Seattle sits at 2-5, with their worst starting home record in nearly 30 years. What fans at Lumen field will get on October 31st, 2021 will not be a treat. No, rather it will be a showcase of a stoppable force vs a movable object.

Last game for Seattle:

In their week seven matchup against the New Orleans Saints, Seattle dropped a game where they just beat themselves. New Orleans was held to just 13 points, a number that NFL defenses would be proud of in most any case considering the offensive juggernaut that the Saints tend to be. Poorly timed penalties, bad offensive execution, and a failure to contain the best player on the field (Alvin Kamara) would be the key factors to a loss that leaves Seahawks fans frustrated and disappointed, and rightfully so.

Where both teams stand heading into this contest:

  • Jacksonville Jaguars

    • 1-5 record, 3rd in AFC South

      • One game winning streak

  • Seattle Seahawks

    • 2-5 record, 4th in NFC West

      • Three game losing streak

Injury report

  • OUT

    • LB Ben Burr-Kirven, WR John Ursua, and S Marquise Blair are all out for the year with season ending injuries.

    • WR Dee Eskridge, RB Chris Carson, and QB Russell Wilson are all still on IR. All three of them are able to return week 10 @ Green Bay

      • Wilson did receive positive news in regards to his finger, but the pin has not currently been removed yet

      • Carson is in danger of missing the rest of the season, per Pete Carroll. His neck injury would need to “make a turn” for him to get back on the field this year. Things don’t look good for the four-year veteran this season, and maybe for his career going forward.

      • Eskridge is still trying to get back from the concussion that he suffered in week one. The wideout recently flew back to Seattle after doing some exercises in Florida aimed towards fast-tracking his recovery.

  • Questionable

    • RB Alex Collins is likely to play against Jacksonville, but is listed as questionable.

    • OG Damien Lewis is dealing with a shoulder injury

    • OT Duane Brown is dealing with an illness

It will be crucial for DK Metcalf to be featured in this game

Key points to a Seattle victory

  • Utilize your offensive talent and take care of business: While Geno Smith will still be under center, Seattle still has the offensive firepower of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Gerald Everett, and Will Dissly amongst others. Lockett and Metcalf combined for only four targets against the Saints, and that simply can’t happen, especially when you consider that the Saints had the number two run defense. The Seahawks failed to take what the Saints gave them, and ended up with only ten points. The Jaguars rank third worst in the league in yards allowed per game, just ahead of..... Seattle. Seattle will need to get its air attack going, as not only are its best weapons receiving threats, the Jaguars give up the second most passing yards per game in the league. Take what the defense gives you.

  • Put pressure on Lawrence: The first overall selection in the draft visits Lumen field, and his current situation is very different than his tenure at Clemson university. While there is offensive talent on the roster for the Jags, Lawrence has not had the easiest time, and that isn’t entirely his fault. Poor offensive line play and trial by fire have given Lawrence a nightmare beginning to his career. The number of times that he has been both picked off and sacked are greater than the number of TDs that he has thrown.

  • Take what Jacksonville gives you: The Jaguars are a prime team to bounce back against. Jacksonville is struggling to figure things out on all sides of the ball. Worst in the league in turnover margin, second to last in the league in sacks created, and near the bottom of the league in most defensive categories. On paper, this should be an automatic win for Seattle. That more than likely won’t be the case, but if the coaching staff properly prepares the team for this game, then Seattle will get back in the win column and start their journey to a miraculous playoff race, if that is still possible.

#1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence comes to town
