Seattle, WA - The Seattle Mariners used a six run eighth inning to complete their comeback win against the Kansas City Royals. The cherry on the top was first baseman Ty France’s three run homer, which also helped earn France our player of the game honor. Starter Matt Brash went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Seattle used six relievers in the win, and Yohan Ramirez was the only one who had earned runs tacked on him with three also.

The Mariner bats came alive in this game, in many different ways. Seattle hit six doubles, two homers, and scored their most runs in a game this season. While the Mariners did leave eleven runners on base, the thirteen runs should cancel that out. Ty France highlighted the Mariners offensive production, going five for six, scoring three runs himself, and batting in five runners. France’s five hit game is the first of its kind by a Mariners since Dee Strange-Gordon did it back on May 1st, 2018.
The other side of this game was the somewhat continued struggle defensively. Seattle recorded two more errors, pushing their homestand total to six. While Matt Brash exited the game in the top of the fifth with only one run on the scoreboard, he did leave two runners on base. Matt Festa would come in, Hunter Dozier reached on an infield single as JP Crawford made a throwing error. Following that, a throwing error by Eugenio Suarez finished the play, as the Royals cut Seattle’s lead to two runs. Brash had two solid outings in his first two starts, but he is also a rookie that never played at the AAA level. It should be noted that he will struggle at times, and we saw that today.
Seattle will look to finish up the series with a sweep when they take on the Royals on Sunday, April 24th with a 1:10PM PST first pitch time. Robbie Ray (2-1, 4.19ERA, 1.24WHIP in 19.1 innings pitched) will take the mound for Seattle, while Carlos Hernandez (0-0, 7.27ERA, 1.96WHIP, 8.2 innings pitched) gets the ball on the hill for Kansas City. With the win, Seattle sits at first in the American League West.
