Seattle, WA - The Seattle Mariners we’re able to sustain their lead in last nights matchup, a 4-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. Julio Rodriguez and Jarred Kelenic factored into the victory, both recording two RBIs on the night. Starting pitcher Chris Flexen had a solid outing, only allowing the one run on a Salvador Perez homer in the top of the sixth inning.
Young stars shine
Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez are two young stars figuring things out for the Mariners, but they both had their fingerprints on this win. Julio’s double in the bottom of the fourth inning drove in Eugenio Suarez and JO Crawford, and gave the Mariners the lead after the game had been scoreless. Jarred Kelenic, not to be outdone, would follow Julio up with a triple, scoring Abraham Toro from third and Julio from second. Seattle had the lead, and it was thanks to their young stars.
Flexen has quality outing
Chris Flexen had a solid showing in the win over the Royals. He got into some jams, but was able to work out of them. The lone run scored by Kansas City came on catcher Salvador Perez’s solo homer in the top of the sixth. Someone once told me, solo homer won’t kill you, you can live with those. And the Mariners could, as that was the only run that they allowed. Anthony Misiewicz and Andres Munoz came into to shut the door for Seattle, both relievers only giving up a hit each. Flexen finished his night going seven innings, allowing six hits, the one earned run, and five strikeouts.
The Mariners look to take the series against the Royals tonight, with a 6:10PM PST first pitch. Young Matt Brash will be on the mound for Seattle, looking to follow up his impressive and maybe lucky outing against Houston on Sunday. Kris Bubic will take the mound for the Royals.
